Dr. Madan Kumar Lakshmanan is a Principal Scientist at CSIR-Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-CEERI), Chennai. With over 23 years of R&D experience across India and Europe, his expertise spans applied machine learning, near-infrared spectroscopy, wireless communication systems, and data science automation.
His research work is grounded in addressing real-world challenges using engineering and scientific tools. Over the years, he has successfully developed and deployed technologies such as:
- AI-enabled Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) based waste plastic sorting system (IIP Dehradun)
- Non-contact plethysmography system for cardiac health monitoring (Samsung, Noida)
- Wireless-enabled inline moisture transmitter (Marico, Puducherry)
These innovations have been showcased at leading international forums such as GCPRS 2024 & 2025 and PLASTO 2025, where they were recognized for industrial applicability.
He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands, where his thesis on reconfigurable and adaptive wireless communication systems was awarded the Best Ph.D. Thesis in the Netherlands. He also received his M.Sc. (Cum Laude) in Telecommunications from Delft University and a B.E. in Electronics & Communication Engineering from the University of Madras.

Dr. Lakshmanan’s recent work is directed toward sustainable technologies, particularly in AI-enabled polymer classification and recycling, as well as contactless health monitoring systems. His teaching and mentoring cover AI for Healthcare, Spectroscopy of Polymers, and Advanced Engineering Mathematics, fostering interdisciplinary learning and innovation.
