Dr. Udit Narayan Pal is a Chief Scientist at CSIR-Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-CEERI), Pilani, and a Professor at the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR). With over 21 years of R&D experience in plasma science and engineering, he leads the Societal Electronics Group at CSIR-CEERI, where his work focuses on developing advanced plasma technologies for societal applications such as water purification, sustainable agriculture, and healthcare. His research interests include dielectric barrier discharges (DBD), cold atmospheric plasma sources, excimer-based UV/VUV radiation systems, plasma-assisted electron beam and microwave devices, and high-power plasma switches like pseudospark and thyratron devices. He has successfully led over 18 funded research projects from agencies including CSIR, DST, DRDO, BRNS, and ICMR, resulting in multiple patents and development of technologies. Dr. Pal has authored more than 75 peer-reviewed journal articles and over 180 conference papers, and has delivered 23 invited talks internationally. He actively mentors Ph.D. and postgraduate students, having supervised five Ph.D. scholars (currently guiding two more) and guided over 40 M.Tech., M.Sc., and B.Tech. scholars. He has participated in international academic exchanges with institutions in Germany, the UK, and the USA. Among his many honours are the Buti Young Scientist award (2012), CSIR Young Scientist Award (2015), Raman Research Fellowship (2019-2020), INSA, India – RSE, Scotland, Exchange of Scientists Programme fellowship (2018), VEDAS Mid-Career Award (2022), and IETE-Bapuseetharam Award (2023), recognizing his outstanding contributions to science, technology, and society.
